Bob's Birthday Card

So here is the birthday card graphics I created for Lynn's husband Bob. He's a seasoned music and film critic and a live database of all CDs, records, vinyls, DVDs and BlueRays. It'd be great if I could merge music and film into one piece. The overall design pays tribute to the Beatles' CD cover Revolver and the individual faces are Bob himself and characters from some of his favorite films, Serenity, Ben-Hur and Lawrence of Arabia.

Mad Man

Little House in Kensington Market

Kensington Market is one of my favorite places in Toronto. It's changing fast in recent years but still has managed to retain its identity: a Bohemian life style with cute little coffee shops, vintage clothes stores, health food supplies, etc. A nice place for sketching too!

Life Drawing 8

Felt comfortable with the 3 min poses last night which makes me happy. But for the longer pose, I worked with pencil for longer than I expected so didn't have a chance to make a watercolour version. Will try again next week.

Tekkon Kinkrest

I'm really new to the comic art genre. Only became interested in it when I came across an ad for the upcoming Toronto Comic Art Fest in early May. When checking the festival website, I got to know about this fantastic comic artist Taiyo Matsumoto. One of my friend happens to have the Tekkon Kinkrest movie, which is based on one of his most well-known comics. He's coming to the festival as featured artist. I'm looking forward to seeing him and his works!

Lytton Strachey

Dora Carrington's love of life, the writer Lytton Strachey.

Dora Carrington

I don't know why all of a sudden I wanted to see the movie Carrington again. It's about the short life of Dora Carrington, A British painter from the early 20th centry, and her unconditional devotion to her lover the writer Lyntton Strachey. Emma Thompson offered a strong performance as Carrington and the soundtrack from the film is so haunting.

Celeries

Did a quick sketch this afternoon with watercolour pencils and water soluble graphite.

Bob Again

Finally finalized the card for a friend last night. An illustration of Bob is part of the card.

Life Drawing 7

I started to notice the looseness in my pencil works for the quick poses. Finally I can feel the energy and flow in my quick sketches! The first drawing is one of the sketches for 2 minute poses. The second is for the last pose, a long one (50 min). I finished it quick and got a chance to have a watercolour pencil version afterward. The model from last night is Ben. I saw him 2 months ago at a life drawing session at OCAD. He's the ideal model for us, full of energy and capable of all kinds of difficult poses!

Little Girl

My friend posted a photo of her little girl's new hair style on FB. It's very cute! Added the rosy cheek in photoshop to give it a little more colour.

Boston Explosion

My heart goes out to the victims of the Boston Marathon explosion. It was such a coward and senseless act that killed and injured innocent people. One of the 3 killed was a 8 year old boy who was cheering for his dad. So sad a beautiful life was ended like this.

Praying Woman

My recent new find on internet is Tumblr. I started following the vintage images section and found some amazing vintage photographs. Some are black and white and others are re-coloured. Besides that the "artists on Tumblr" section is also very inspiring.

Trying Out Water Soluble Graphite

Got some water soluble graphite pencils yesterday and happily tried them out with watercolour pencils. Mushroom seems not a bad idea for the mixed media.

The girl from the movie Serenity. Used computer today.

Life Drawing 6

I brought in watercolour pencils with me to the second figure class last night. It was good experience but it didn't work very well because of the paper. The sketchbook paper is not for watercolour. But I really had fun last night watching the teacher's demo and learning new skills.

Molly

Molly was put down yesterday. She was not my dog but for the past 4 years she became a part of my life. Before she became ill, she used to greet me with a toy wagging her tail when I came back home. Sweet memories...

Still working on sketches of Bob for a project.

Boy Playing Flute

A lovely image I saw on the internet. Can't help but sketching it out.

Bob

A great musician from Burlington, so passionate about music and movies, and he happens to be my friend Lynn's husband!

Lawrence of Arabia

I'll be making a card for a friend. Came up with a cool idea and started warming up with some drawings of characters from old movies.

Life Drawing 5

Started the figure drawing class last night. It's pretty much like the life drawing sessions at OCAD, but now I have an instructor who can point out what's missing and what's off here and there. It's great to have someone give you quick critics. The model was excellent too.

It's intended to be Jude Law

A girl and a guy collided in a skating ring...then the guy sent a note to the sweet girl.

Gordon

Met him at a friend's party. But only at the most recent party did he mention a flash movie his partner created for their first anniversary. The movie recounts the first year of their love story and is very well done. It almost brought tears to my eyes.

Yongxin

We call her Sis Yongxin. She's a great hostess and holds great parties. We count on her for holidays parties like the Easter.
